On September 2, 2013, our brother Robert Lemon was riding his tandem bicycle with his best friend when they were struck by a drunk driver in a hit-and-run accident. Rob and Hilary were both wearing helmets and riding in the bike lane. Even so, Rob died immediately and Hilary died 19 days later from the injuries sustained.
Rob had plans to open a bicycle shop and eventually give bicycles to children who may not otherwise be able to afford one. This project is our attempt to give life to the latter part of his dream and connect bicycles with children in the Grand Rapids area, the place he called home.
In 2021, there were eight families totaling 13 bicycles. In 2020, in light of the pandemic, we did one family with 3 members. In 2019, there were five families, totaling 11 kids with bicycles, helmets, bike locks, and a pump for the family. In 2018, there were three families with a total of 10 kids, in 2017 we had three families with a total of 9 kids, in 2016 there were two families with a total of 7 kids, in 2015 there were two families with a total of 4 kids, in 2014 there were two families with a total of 6 kids, and in our inaugural year of 2013 we were able to connect 2 brothers with the items to get them started biking.
Thank you for your support as we grow Rob’s dream.
